8 Tips to be Successful Seller on Poshmark

More than half of my closet has come from Poshmark and there’s a good reason. From basics, to event clothes, to gifts, you can find almost anything on the app with a little tenacity. The best part is, that you can sell your old clothes and earn cash to purchase from other Poshers, essentially rotating your wardrobe and giving your old clothes a new life.

Poshmark is a mix between a social media platform and an online thrift store. It’s awesome. To be a successful seller, you have to engage with other poshers and keep your profile current like any other social media platform. That makes it sound harder than it is to make a sale, but the reality is, that if you engage with the community, the community will engage with you, and your posts will be seen. Once you get good at selling, you can be named as a Posh Ambassador making people more likely to buy from you as a trusted seller. Think “verified” profile.

Creating an account and listing your first few items is the hardest part so here are 8 tips on how to be a successful seller on Poshmark! Sign up with my code to receive $10 toward your next purchase!

  1. Take good photos of the clothes you want to sell.
    • Make sure to show the front, back, brand, size tag, detailing, and any imperfections. Good lighting that reflects the item’s true color is a must!
  2. Post quality items
    • Let’s face it, if you wouldn’t buy a 5-year-old sweater with pilling, it’s very unlikely someone else wants to buy it. Posting newer or good-condition items is how you’ll make your closet look clean and more desirable to buyers.
  3. Rotate your closet
    • When you repost an item in your closet, it’ll move to the top of your closet when you refresh. I like to repost every couple of days so different posts show at the top and make your closet look like it has new additions, even when it may not.
  4. Set a bundle discount
    • Poshmark fees have gotten out of hand (IMO), so I like to buy from closets that give a discount for buying more than one item. Set your profile settings to offer a discount for orders of 2,3,4+ items. You can also offer shipping discounts because who doesn’t love free shipping?!
  5. Ship items on time
    • Poshmark expects items to be shipped within 5 days from when it was purchased. Now, who doesn’t like their packages early? Aim to ship the package the same or the next day for the best reviews, and a better chance to become a Posh Ambassador.
      • Pro-tip – Poshmark now lets you ship a package with a QR code shipping label generated in the app so no need for a printer! Simply take your package to the post office and scan the code.
  6. Make it sustainable!
    • You’ll be doing great work giving your clothes a second life, so why not give your packaging a second life too? Save up your cardboard boxes and packing materials to use when you sell an item. If you’re in a pinch, your local post office has free boxes as well.
  7. Go the extra mile
    • After you sell an item, the buyer will have the opportunity to rate and leave a comment on your profile. When shipping out items, make sure they are clean/washed, and packaged in some recycled wrapping, and you can even write a thank you note. These things increase a buyer’s experience and encourage them to leave a nice review that other buyers will see!
  8. Engage!
    • Poshmark is a community of people looking to buy and sell. To be seen, make sure to regularly share items from your closet and other people’s as well. There’s no limit as to how many times you can share, but make sure to share a variety of pieces so your followers always see something new.
      • Pro tip- when browsing for clothes, find an item you like, follow the owner, and repost 2 of their listings. It’s a great way to share with your followers what items you like while also gaining followers yourself.
